Walkthrough: CSI: NY Episode 5: Derailed
notes:
You can skip two mini-games in each scene. There are two lights next to a Skip button on each mini-game that shows the status of skipped games. Skipping games will get you lower ratings at the end.
Click on underlined text in conversations to pursue topics. Completed topics will change colour from pink to white.
Drag items from the inventory to a person to ask questions about them.
Your Credibility depends on which questions and objects (and sometimes which part of a particular object) you choose to ask the suspect about. Your credibility decreases if you ask irrelevant questions.
You can only save in one slot you when exit the game.
This game is lucid and reasonable enough to finish without any hints if you’re an experienced adventure / puzzle / HOG gamer.
walkthrough:
You play as Detective Mac Taylor. The game starts with the discovery of a frozen body aboard a NY subway train.
Scene 1: Subway Car Interior
Talk to Det. Don Flack:
1. 'morning': It's 3 am.
2. 'only in New York': The victim, posed as a passenger, was frozen.
3. 'in a fight': Mac says he was hit by a bike messenger.
Exit the conversation.

Mini-game: Shoetime!
Solution: The bits of tape have to be placed so as to completely cover the residue under the shoe i.e. to cover all the green areas of the grid. Hint: This game is made complicated by the fact that there are 16 squares to be covered and 17 squares of tape, so there is overlap to 1 square each of two pieces of tape. This is completely trial and error.

Mini-game: Bloody Ring
Solution: Take a swab of the blood on the ring. Click the swab and keep the mouse pressed to draw an outline around the bloodstain.

The victim's name is Justin Davis.
Talk to Det. Don Flack:
1. 'no angel': The victim was involved in assaults.
Show Don the ring: It has murderers skin and blood on it.
Show Don the money clip: It wasn't stolen, so no robbery motive.
Exit the conversation.
Scene 2: Morgue
Mini-game: Cause Of Death
Solution: Find 7 differences between the victims's face (left) and his ID photo (right) to determine cause of death.

Click the top right monitor: DNA Analysis
Mini-game: Skin Cells
Solution: Click the tweezers to grab and drag the DNA / cells swirling in the centre to their boxes on the sides till one DNA is left.

Scene 4: Justin Davis' Apartment
Relevant Items: Tread Marks, Torn Papers, Fireplace Poker, Rope, Chair, Eyelash, Tissue Wad, Door Frame Splinter

Mini-game: Photo Shoot
Solution: Use the camera on the tread marks to find 3 irregularities.

Mini-game: Torn Papers
Solution: The paper pieces have to be rearranged to reconstruct the letter. Right click the pieces to rotate them. Hint: Start from the top and bottom segments which have the design on them.

Mini-game: The Rope Trick
Solution: Use the tweezers to collect 4 fibres from the rope. Click a fibre and drag it to one of the empty blocks on the right.

Mini-game: Chair Evidence
Solution: Use the magnifying glass to find 6 abnormalities on the chair.

Click the fireplace poker in the inventory.
Click the tissue wad in the bedroom at the back of the living room.
The poker may take a few tries before it hooks.
Scene 5: Doorway Of Doris' Apartment
Talk to Doris Brown:
1. 'more than I want to': Justin was quite the ladies' man.
2. 'usual routine': The moaning and the banging.
3. 'different': Justin's bed was bumping but there was no other noise, about a month ago. He's missing since then.
Show Doris the torn note: She admits to writing it.
Show Doris the skull ring, click the top of the ring: It's Justin's.
Show Doris the money clip, click Justin's face: She IDs him correctly.
Exit the conversation.
Scene 6: Subway Platform
Relevant Items: None

Talk to Jason Miller:
1. 'dragged a frozen body': It happened in one of the tunnels.
2. 'subway car': A 6th car was added to the usual 5 for the night trains.
3. 'one person': The murderer had to have help.
Show Jason the money clip: He agrees to show it around for an ID.
Show Jason the ring, click the bottom of the ring: He agrees to show it around for an ID.
Clicking the top of the ring results in credibility loss - go figure!
Exit the conversation.
Mini-game: Map It Out
Solution: click and drag the four pieces of the map to reconstruct the map. Hint: All four pieces greatly overlap. Use the stations on the main lines (the thicker tracks) to serve as overlap pointers.

Use the flashlight to search around the tracks.

Scene 8: Interrogation Of Jamaica Zambrano (JZ)
Talk to JZ:
1. 'woman': With red hair, overcoat and a scarf over her face.
2. 'wormies': The lady gave JZ and his boys 20 bucks each, and JZ the watch for pushing the train.
3. 'her partner': JZ doesn't know the 'partner' was Justin's dead body.
Show JZ the money clip, click the photo: He recognises Justin.
Show JZ the ring, click the lower half: The lady refused to give it up.

Click the top right monitor: DNA Analysis

Solution: Click the tweezers to grab and drag the DNA swirling in the centre to their boxes on the sides till one DNA is left.

Mini-game: Taped Too Much
Solution: Remove the pieces of tape, one at a time, to unpack the box. A tape must be completely uncovered by other tapes to be removed.

2. 'so much anger': She says she's gotten over the negative feelings.

Solution: The bits of tape have to be placed so as to completely cover the residue on the carpet i.e. to cover all the green areas of the grid. This time there are no overlapping pieces of tape, but of course, it's all completely trial and error.

Scene 16: Interrogation Of Pamela Ross
Talk to Pamela Ross:
1. 'revenge': Pamela's motive is to kill Justin for raping Amanda.
2. 'prime suspect': She says she's too old and not a redhead.
3. 'alibis': She says she was reading a book.
Show Pamela the coffee, click the dark roast logo: She says lot of roasting houses prefer organic coffee.
Show Pamela the wheelchair, click the seat (not the wheels, though): She uses it to move coffee bags around.
Show Pamela the handcuffs, click the bloodstain: She says that Mac may have put them there to frame her.
Show Pamela the ring, click the lower jaw: She recognises it.
Exit the conversation.
